Roofing automations: five office problems, five tested fixes
Roofing automation for small US residential roofing companies on JobNimbus or AccuLynx, with CompanyCam for photos: estimate follow-up texts and emails that stop when the homeowner replies, a missed-call text-back that sorts storm-week calls by ZIP and sends active leaks to your on-call phone, CompanyCam photo packets for office review, milestone updates and a review request from AccuLynx, and a daily photo log in JobNimbus. Each recipe is an n8n workflow with setup steps, a monthly cost from the vendors' own price pages and the result of our test run. These recipes use rules, not an AI model, and no message talks about deductibles, coverage or filing a claim.
The five recipes
Problem 1
Estimates sit in 'Estimate Sent' and nobody follows up
Fix: Roofing estimate follow-up for JobNimbus: 3 touches that stop on reply, opt-out or status change.

After a storm the phones ring while the crew is on a roof
Fix: Storm-week missed-call text-back for roofers: intake by text, leaks to on-call, the rest queued by ZIP.

Claim and inspection photos are scattered across phones and jobs
Fix: CompanyCam photo documentation packet: inspection photos in order, with captions and times, for office review.

Why these five
Estimates that go quiet
A roofer on r/Roofing says 65-75% of their estimates never convert. That's one contractor's estimate, not a measured rate. r/Roofing thread on estimates that never convert Roofing Contractor's 2025 State of the Industry survey: 35% of residential roofers named low-ball pricing a top concern, behind the economy (57%), material costs (47%) and finding workers (38%). Follow-up won't fix price, but it keeps you in the conversation. Roofing Contractor: 2025 State of the Roofing Industry report
Storm weeks and missed calls
Invoca's 2026 home services benchmark: 52% of calls to home services businesses reached a person, and answer rates ranged from 32% to 74% by sub-industry. Roofing isn't broken out; construction and restoration are among the segments. Invoca, Home Services Lead Conversion Benchmarks Report 2026 Roofing Contractor, on Verisk's report: US roof repair and replacement costs reached nearly $31 billion in 2024, and non-catastrophic wind and hail grew from 17% to 25% of residential claims since 2022. Storm weeks are getting busier. Roofing Contractor: Insurers Further Tighten Grip Amid Surging Roof Losses (on Verisk's U.S. Roofing Realities report)
Documentation carriers ask for
Roofing Contractor, on Verisk's report: roof repair and replacement costs reached nearly $31 billion in 2024, almost 30% more than in 2022, and the Private Risk Management Association says carriers are tightening documentation requirements before paying roof claims. Estimate follow-up that stops when the homeowner replies
Every 15 minutes the workflow reads JobNimbus jobs in 'Estimate Sent'. On days 2, 7 and 14 after the status changed, the homeowner gets one short follow-up from the sales rep: a text if the contact has recorded text consent, otherwise an email, and only between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. in the homeowner's time zone. It stops as soon as the homeowner replies, opts out or the job's status changes. On day 21 the rep gets a JobNimbus task instead of a fourth message. Every message is logged as a JobNimbus note. Setup, costs and test results.
Missed calls during a storm: text-back and intake
When a call to your Twilio number goes unanswered, the caller gets one text asking for their street address, ZIP code and the word LEAK if water is coming in right now. Their reply creates a JobNimbus lead (or adds notes to an existing customer's jobs) and a callback task. Active leaks go straight to the on-call phone; everything else joins a storm queue that the office gets by email every hour, grouped by ZIP so you can plan routes. One text per caller per 12 hours, nothing about insurance, and STOP is honored. Setup, costs and test results.
Inspection photo packets from CompanyCam
From a JobNimbus job (or a small form), the workflow pulls the linked CompanyCam project's photos for the dates you pick, puts them in a fixed order by tag (elevations, roof overview, slopes, damage close-ups, interior), and builds a packet with capture time, photographer, caption and photo link. It leaves out internal photos and holds any caption or note that mentions coverage or deductibles for review. The packet is emailed to your office only, with a JobNimbus note and a CompanyCam comment. Nothing goes to the homeowner, the insurer or the adjuster automatically. Setup, costs and test results.
Job milestone updates for homeowners, then one review request
When an AccuLynx job moves to Approved or Completed, AccuLynx's job-milestone-changed webhook triggers a short status update to the homeowner: a text to their mobile if they haven't opted out, otherwise an email, otherwise an alert to the office. It re-reads the job's current milestone first, so late or repeated events don't send anything. Two days after completion, at 10 a.m., the homeowner gets one review request by email with your review link: no gating, no incentive. If the job is reopened first, it doesn't send. Every message is also logged on the AccuLynx job. Setup, costs and test results.
A daily photo log from the crew's CompanyCam photos
CompanyCam's photo.created webhook adds one 'crew on site' note to the JobNimbus job when the first photo of the day arrives. At 6 p.m. the workflow reads each in-progress job's photos for the day and posts a daily log note in JobNimbus with times, photographers, captions and links. If the job's 'Send Daily Updates' field is Yes, the homeowner gets a short email with the day's photos, leaving out internal photos and any caption that mentions insurance or deductibles; the office gets a text about held captions and a list of in-progress jobs with no photos today. Setup, costs and test results.
Overlap to know about: JobNimbus Automations can already send texts when a job changes status (with Engage, its texting add-on), and CompanyCam already builds photo reports and daily logs and shares job updates with customers. If those cover you, use them. These recipes are for offices that want the homeowner's own quiet hours, stop-on-reply across text and email, a word check on every message, or the record kept in the CRM.
Texting, door-to-door and storm-chaser rules we design around
Not legal advice and not a compliance guarantee. Nothing you download makes your company compliant. Rules differ by state and city; check with counsel and your state before you turn any recipe on. Rules checked on October 28, 2026.
- Texts and quiet hours. The FCC's rule (47 CFR 64.1200) bars telephone solicitations before 8 a.m. or after 9 p.m. in the called party's local time, requires prior express written consent for autodialed telemarketing to cell phones, and says consent can be revoked "using any reasonable method". Our recipes text only homeowners with consent recorded in your CRM, only between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. in the homeowner's time zone, and stop on STOP or plain-English opt-outs. JobNimbus's own automations use the company's time zone (JobNimbus help).
- Contractors are not public adjusters. Texas Insurance Code 4102.163 says a contractor may not act as a public adjuster or advertise to adjust claims on property it is or may be working on. Florida Statutes 489.147 bars contractors from interpreting policy provisions or adjusting claims without a public adjuster license and covers emails, phone calls and canvassers. Minnesota 325E.66 and Colorado 6-22-105 have similar rules. So the photo packet stays with your office, says what it is not, and nothing is sent to an insurer or adjuster.
- Deductibles. Texas (Bus. & Com. Code 27.02), Florida, Minnesota and Colorado restrict promising to pay, waive or rebate a homeowner's deductible; Florida also requires specific disclosures on any message that encourages a roof claim. Our recipes never mention deductibles or claims, and a word check blocks a message that does. The Texas Department of Insurance lists more advertising language to avoid (TDI: roofing and insurance).
- Door-to-door sales. The FTC Cooling-Off Rule (16 CFR 429) gives buyers three business days to cancel many sales made at their home, and states such as Texas, Florida and Colorado add their own cancellation rules. None of these recipes knocks doors or texts storm-area lists; if you canvass, check your state and city permit rules.
US only for now. Roofr doesn't publish developer API docs (its help center documents a Zapier connection), so no Roofr version is built; JobNimbus recipes are not built for AccuLynx and the reverse, and we make no claim that they work elsewhere. The 65-75% figure is one roofer's post on Reddit, labeled as an anecdote on the recipe page. All recipes were verified with mocks of JobNimbus, AccuLynx, CompanyCam, Twilio, Google Sheets and Resend, using invented homeowners and jobs.
From the blog
- AI receptionist for roofing companies vs. a missed-call text-back: a storm-week comparison
An AI receptionist answers and books on the call; a missed-call text-back collects an address by text for pennies. We compare Roofr, Asisto and Smith.ai prices with our mock-tested text-back, and explain the claim-talk rules that apply to whatever answers your phone. - Roofing estimate follow-up texts: a 3-touch sequence that stops when it should
A short follow-up sequence for roofing estimates: when to send each touch, what to say, when to stop, and how the 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. rule, opt-outs and state claim rules shape the wording. Starts with what JobNimbus already does.
How we test
Every workflow was imported into n8n 2.45.4 and run end to end on our test machine. JobNimbus (public API), AccuLynx (API v2 and webhooks), CompanyCam (Public API v1 and webhooks), Twilio, Google Sheets and the email sender (Resend) were replaced by a local mock server built from their official API docs: it checks the same request shapes, authentication headers and filters, pages results (CompanyCam cursors), signs webhooks the way Twilio and CompanyCam do, and returns HTTP 429 with Retry-After. A frozen test clock checks the 8 a.m.-9 p.m. texting window in the homeowner's time zone. These recipes use no AI model; every decision is a written rule. Homeowners, jobs and photos are invented. Verified with mocks; nothing was sent to a real person or account.
Software covered: JobNimbus, AccuLynx and CompanyCam (Roofr has no public API; not built). Prices checked October 2026.
